Jon Sebba, Utah State Poetry Society’s Poet of the Year, will be reading from his new award winning book in St. George at the Southern Utah Book Festival. In his collection of poems entitled Yowwi Yasser and Other Soldiers, Sebba tells of his war experiences as a young man in Israel and his urgent crusade for peace, a message each of us needs to hear. Veterans and their families are especially encouraged to attend his presentations to hear his discussion of this important topic.
As part of the Dixie Poets YOUTH POETRY CONTEST, now in its fourth year, Sebba will assist giving out awards to the 1st through 12th grade students from the Washington County School District area and share a new poem on Peace which is the topic of this year’s poetry contest. Youth entries are due by Oct 12th and winners will read their poems at the Author Expo on Sat, Oct 19th at 10 am at the Lexington Hotel. Following the awards on Oct 19th at 11 am, Sebba will read from his book and discuss it’s inception for older youth, adults and especially veterans in the area. Both of these presentations are free as is the author expo held from at the Lexington Hotel 250 S Bluff in St. George.
An authors’ Charity Banquet will be held on Friday Oct 18th at 6 pm with proceeds going to the WCSD Foundation. Come and hear Jon Sebba discuss his experiences and other authors share how they came to write their books. Tickets are $40-adults and $25 for youth 17 and up. DEADLINE to RSVP is Oct. 12, 2013!
